A number of venues across Merseyside will close next Monday following the announcement of the Queen's funeral.
From supermarket giants such as Sainsbury's and Aldi to local National Trust sites and museums, venues across Merseyside will be closing their doors on Monday, September 19 following the announcement the Queen's funeral will be a bank holiday. Primark and John Lewis also confirmed plans to keep their doors closed.
While businesses are not required to shut their doors on the day of the funeral, many have made the decision to do so. Others have chosen to open for reduced hours, as many regularly do on other bank holidays.

The Government guidance is: "Some businesses may wish to consider closing or postponing events, especially on the day of the state funeral, however, this is at the discretion of individual businesses."
Below we've taken a look at the places which have made the decision to close their doors or cancel plans on Monday, the day of the Queen's funeral.
Theatres, cinemas and more
The Plaza
The Plaza cinema in Waterloo has confirmed it will be closed on Monday and has rescheduled planned events to different dates. The Facebook post said: "HM Queen Elizabeth II State Funeral: The Plaza will remain closed on Monday 19th September 2022.
"The Live at the Plaza will move to Monday 26th Sept. The Autism screening will also move to Monday 26th Sept".
The Unity
The Hope Place venue will be shutting up shop to allow its staff to pay their respects. A spokesperson from the Unity said: "We were already closed to public on that day but we will be marking the Bank Holiday and closing for staff as well, to ensure they can mark the occasion as they wish."
The Everyman and Playhouse
Both the Everyman, based on Hope Street, and its sister site the Playhouse, on Williamson Square, will be closed on Monday. A statement on the theatres' website reads: "It is with great sadness to learn that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died. It's a huge loss when a long-standing family member dies and our thoughts are with The Royal Family.
"Our theatres remain open, with shows and events continuing as usual but as a mark of respect, we have lit our buildings in purple. We will close both theatres on the day of Her Majesty's funeral, Monday 19 September, as a further mark of respect."
St Helens Theatre Royal
The popular theatre will also be closed on September 19. A spokesperson told the Echo: "There is no show scheduled the day of the Queen's funeral so we will be closed. There are crew working on a 'get in', however we will be stopping work to allow them to watch the funeral."
The Echo has contacted other local theatres and venues for confirmation of their plans. We will update this article accordingly.
Museums and attractions
National Museums Liverpool
Many of Merseyside's popular museums and attractions have already confirmed that they won't be opening on September 19. National Museums Liverpool has confirmed that its venues will be closed, however it is also worth noting that these venues are usually closed on Mondays. This includes the Museum of Liverpool, World Museum, International Slavery Museum, Maritime Museum, Walker Art Gallery, Sudley House and Lady Lever Art Gallery.
Tate Liverpool
The Tate Liverpool will also be closed on Monday. In a statement from the gallery, they said: "Tate mourns the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II deeply. We offer our sincerest condolences to the Royal Family. As a mark of respect, all Tate galleries will close for the day of the funeral."
National Trust sites
National Trust shared the news on Twitter and said it will close doors around the country on Monday, September 19, including Speke Hall and The Hardmans' House. The full post said: "On Monday 19 September, the houses and gardens we care for, including cafes and shops, will be closed as we pay tribute to Her Majesty The Queen.
"Coast and countryside car parks will remain open for visitors". Your nearest National Trust site can be found here.
Supermarkets & high street stores
A number of popular grocery supermarkets will close on Monday September 19 for the Queen's funeral. Some will close all day and pause online deliveries, other stores like the Co-Op will reopen after 5pm.
Aldi, Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury's, Lidl and Tesco have all confirmed their closure for the day to respect the Queen's passing. Other high street retailers such as Next, Primark, Waterstones, Zara and Wilko will also close on the day. Cheshire Oaks has confirmed it will join businesses closing up and down the country by shutting all 145 of its stores and reopening on Tuesday, September 20.
