Closing Northern Quarter hotspot is ‘staying in the fam’ as it reveals what will take over Oldham Street venue

A month after Cocktail Beer Ramen + Bun (CBRB) announced their shock closure following five years in the city centre, their replacement has now been revealed - and it looks absolutely delicious.

The Northern Quarter venture shared on Instagram that 101-103 Oldham Street would be ‘staying in the fam’, giving a ‘silver lining’ after a tough trading year.

It comes as Kongs Kitchens is set to take over the unit, founded by one of the original CBRB staff members in 2021.

In post on social media, CBRB said: “Since the announcement of our closure, we have been inundated with support + lovely messages + stories from you beautiful people. But it’s time for a bit of good news… let’s be honest, we all need some of that right now.

“Those of you that have been with us from the beginning, will remember our OG Tom. Tom was with us from day dot, helping build CBRB (literally) + was a huge part of making our lil ramen gaff the place it was.

“After flying the nest in 2021 to pursue his own food concept @kongskitchens, using the CBRB kitchen for their first pop up + coming back together a year later for our first ever collab, we are now super happy to be able to say that the place we’ve called home is going to be staying in the fam.”

They continued: “You may of seen the news that Kongs will be opening their own venue in the NQ recently. We’re dead chuffed to announce they will be moving into our old home at 101-103 Oldham Street.

“It’s been a tough year but CBRB is super proud + happy that after all this, there is a silver lining to our story.”

Cocktail Beer Ramen + Bun closed on Sunday, February 12, with bosses saying the business had been under 'massive financial strain' with 'skyrocketing' costs of goods and energy bills 'more than doubling'.

The popular noodle bar first opened back in 2018, as a 'late night ramen joint', but owners made the emotional announcement on social media to close on February 8, saying the decision 'broke their hearts' after months of meetings and deliberations.

Kongs Kitchens - who also have residencies at Dogbowl and Hatch - are yet to announce a moving in date. Looking at their Instagram account, the brand specialise in huge stacked burgers oozing with cheese and toppings, as well as fried chicken, wings and loaded fries.

We’re certain they’re going to be a welcome addition to the Northern Quarter when they land.
