Yesterday it emerged that the campaign raised more than €1.9m for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and mental health charity Pieta.
But the former RTE chief news correspondent tweeted yesterday that “we are going to go beyond two million euro raised”.
He added: “Wow I am completely blown away by the amazing support for Climb With Charlie all over the country and abroad.

The former newsman, who is terminally ill, was accompanied by his wife Claire and daughters Orla and Neasa on his journey.
Friends and celebrity supporters including RTE host Ryan Tubridy also joined him on the way.
When he reached the summit he thanked all those who had joined the campaign and took part in their own climb.
He said: “I am truly humbled and inspired that so many thousands of people took part in Climb With Charlie events across the world.
“I want to thank people all across the country for their incredible support throughout this journey.
“All of the generous donations will go to the two charities which are so close to my heart.

“And I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart.”
President Michael D Higgins led the tributes to the former broadcaster praising his fortitude and determination.
