Claudine Keane admits she is missing hubby Robbie Keane as he celebrates his birthday away from home

Model Claudine Keane has said she “misses” football legend Robbie as he celebrates his birthday away from home.

The former Ireland striker has moved to Israel to take up a two-year deal as manager with Israeli club, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, replacing Aitor Karanka.

The Dubliner celebrated his 43rd birthday in Israel and glamourous mum-of-two Claudine tweeted how “proud” she is of her husband.

She wrote: “Happy birthday to the best dad and husband, we miss you do much. Can’t wait to celebrate with you next week.. we are so proud of you and love you so much!! Enjoy today. Love all your gang in Ireland.”

Keane shocked football fans when he announced the move, with Sinn Féin TD Chris Andrews saying: "Very very disappointing that Irish Football icon Robbie Keane would sign up with racist and apartheid Israeli club @MaccabitlvBC. Keane is in a position to set an example and Boycott Apartheid but chose not to!!"

But at his first press conference last month, Keane said he did not want to get into "politics" when asked about controversy over the move.

"I am happy to take on this challenge at Maccabi," Keane told the club website.

"My team and I are already looking forward to starting work and we are confident in our ability to do what is necessary to prepare."

When asked about criticism at home, Keane replied: "I don't want to get into politics. This is the last time I will say it, I certainly don't want to get into politics. I'm here as a football man and someone that loves the game, so I will certainly just focus on that but thanks for your question."
