Claudia Winkleman reveals what caused Richard E Grant’s Celebrity Traitors blunder

• Actor Richard E Grant stunned his fellow contestants on the launch episode of Celebrity Traitors by immediately revealing his secret identity as a traitor.
• Presenter Claudia Winkleman selected Grant and television presenter Maya Jama for the treacherous roles after both enthusiastically requested them in the premiere.
• When questioned by co-stars in the bar shortly afterwards, Grant delightedly admitted he was a traitor, though his fellow celebrities dismissed his direct confession as a joke or a bluff.
• Winkleman revealed that Grant was so “giddy” and compelling during his pre-selection interview that she felt she could not refuse his eager request to be chosen.
• Praising his unique approach, Winkleman noted: “The genius of the game is everybody plays it completely differently, and he took that to the next level.”
