Claudia Sheinbaum has responded to the announcement of her projected victory in Mexico’s presidential election early Monday morning, emphasizing her commitment to governing all Mexicans 'without distinction,' despite not having unanimous support for her policies.
In a speech delivered to her supporters, Sheinbaum stated, 'Our duty is and will always be to look after every single Mexican without distinction. So even though many Mexicans do not fully agree with our project, we will have to walk in peace and harmony to continue building a fair and more prosperous Mexico.'
She also acknowledged the historical significance of her election as the first female president of Mexico, expressing gratitude for the milestone. 'I am also grateful because, for the first time in 200 years of the republic, I will become the first woman president of Mexico.'
Sheinbaum revealed that her two rivals in the presidential race, Xóchitl Gálvez and Jorge Álvarez Máynez, had reached out to congratulate her on her projected victory.
As per preliminary results from the National Electoral Institute, Sheinbaum, the candidate from the ruling party, secured the most votes in Sunday’s elections. However, the Electoral Court still needs to validate the presidential election. If confirmed, Sheinbaum is set to assume the presidency on October 1.
