We saw a sharp rise in Downdetector reports for Claude, one of the best AI chatbots you can use, but it seems to have been resolved now. We've seen Claude spike up and down over recent days, but it saw a sharp jump to around 4,000 reports this morning before dropping down to its more regular levels. Clearly, something bigger was wrong than just too many users jumping onto the service as they switched from other AI tools.
For its part, Claude has acknowledged the outage on its status page, citing increased errors, and it did a fairly good job of keeping us abreast with the latest info as it happened.

Claude is down and Downdetector reports are pouring in
The reports have started pouring in as thousands of users flock to Downdetector to report that their favorite service isn't working. As of this post, there are more than 4,000 reports, which is quite high in such a short time.
Great communication from Anthropic
While it's frustrating for a service like Claude to be down, Anthropic quickly updated its status page to report the issue, which is always nice to see. Too often, we see services wait too long, keeping users in the dark.
In this case, the company said, "We are currently investigating this issue," and it followed up a few minutes later saying, "We are continuing to investigate this issue."
So while there's no solution in place yet, at least know the firm is aware and working to solve the issue.
Only a partial outage
It's worth noting that Claude's status page also calls this a "partial outage," which means you might still be able to get the AI service to work if you're lucky.
Downturn in reports
While the number of reports is still extremely high, we have seen a slight downturn in reports, which could mean that things are moving in the right direction for getting Claude up and running.

A false drop
A few moments ago, we noticed a drop in Downdetector reports, but it was actually a false alarm, as a new refresh has shown a continued increase.
Users weigh in
As is always the case during a big outage, users have poured into the Downdetector comments section to let their voices be heard. While there's a lot of trolling happening (and some moderately offensive content), it's still interesting to see how users are reacting to their favorite AI service going down.
All quiet from Anthropic
Claude's owner, Anthropic, has been quiet since the last "We are continuing to investigate this issue" post on its status page. And while we've seen Downdetector reports drop again, the outage appears to still be happening with no official report from the company that it's fixed.
Anthropic with the update
Finally, we've received an update from Anthropic that it has implemented a fix. It could take a little while for things to fully return to normal, but it's a step in the right direction to say the least.
Issues with Cowork, too
A new error report has popped up on Claude's status website, this time citing "Elevated connection reset errors in Cowork." We'll keep an eye on this one too, as it could lead to another overall spike in outage reports as people attempt to use Cowork.
Reports almost back to normal
Despite Claude's status still showing down officially, it seems most users are able to access the AI chatbot, as the Downdetector reports have dropped to around 700 (a far cry from the 5,000 we saw at its peak).

Downdetector reports have hit 226, which is close to the point of being fully over. We'll continue to monitor the situation until Claude's status page officially says everything is fixed, but it seems that things have mostly returned to normal.
Another new issue popping up on the Claude status page
We're now seeing "Elevated errors on Claude Opus 4.6" on the status page. This is a new error, as the original problem was more general.
Seeing recovery...
According to Anthropic's status page, Claude is recovering, so any straggler issues should be fixed soon. "We are currently seeing recovery, and our engineers are working to ensure no further recurrences. We will provide an update as soon as possible," reads the status page.
