Classics movies to be screened in a CAVE in the Peak District - including The Lost Boys and The Goonies

A season of classic movies are set to be screened in a cave in the Peak District. The Village Screen pop-up cinema is behind the plans, which is all set to happen at the Peak Cavern cave in Castleton.

Village Screen has been using the location as an outdoor cinema since 2017, with 12 events planned over three long weekends this year. The first is Kiefer Sutherland classic The Lost Boys on April 28.

The following night, it’s The Goonies, followed by cave-based horror The Descent on April 30 and then Back To The Future on May 1. The following weekend, it’s Pulp Fiction on May 5, The Lost Boys again on May 6, The Rocky Horror Picture Show on May 7 and Dune on May 8.

Then on the final weekend, it’s Martin Scorsese thriller Shutter Island on May 12, Alien on May 13, The Princess Bride on May 14 and The Goonies once again on May 15. For the screenings, the cave is fitted out with a 21 foot screen, with full sound and additional lighting.

The events are accompanied by various other entertainment on the night, including live music in the cave’s car park area before the movie screening. There are also street food vendors and pop-up bars providing food and drink on the nights too.

Movie buffs can also upgrade to a ‘snuggle package’, which includes extra blankets, hot water bottles, sweets and chocolates, and a ‘bake box’ featuring brownies, blondies and mini-egg cookies, is also available from Sorrel’s Bakery in Sheffield.

TIckets cost £23 for adults, and £19 for children under 16, with lower prices for some limited early bird tickets and concessions. Head to the Village Screen site to book tickets.

Village Screen has been going since 2015, and has screened movies at the Victoria Baths in Manchester, Ecclesall Woods in Sheffield and the lido at Hathersage.
