'Class!' - Sunderland fans hail Amad after Manchester United loanee makes telling impact vs Wigan

Numerous Sunderland supporters praised Manchester United loanee Amad after he stepped off the bench to help them seal a 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

The Ivorian, who joined United from Italian outfit Atalanta back in January 2021, climbed off the bench at the half-time interval to help them come from a goal down and secure their first Championship win in five matches. Trailing to Charlie Wyke's 44th-minute opener, the Black Cats turned the game on its head thanks to goals from Elliot Embleton and Dennis Cirkin after the restart.

Replacing Lynden Gooch at the interval, Amad's introduction meant a change in tactics for the Black Cats, accommodating his attacking threat. Although he didn't score either of the home side's two goals, nor did he grab an assist for either of them, he played a key role in helping Tony Mowbray's side get a massive three points.

Earlier this week, the winger played for Sunderland's Under-21s against Leeds United, such was his recent struggle to earn regular minutes in the first team. He was also recently criticised by Mowbray, who shared concerns about his failures inside the final third.

But although he did not have a direct hand in either of his side's two goals against Wigan, Mowbray is likely to have been left pleased with what he saw from the Reds loanee, with several Sunderland fans hailing the impact he had in the second half. Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what they had to say.

As you can see from the messages shared in the tweets above, Amad certainly left a lasting impression on the Sunderland fans watching, meaning he will be hoping that it proves to be a turning point in his Sunderland loan. The 20-year-old has started just once since joining the club, being included in the starting line-up for a goalless draw with Blackpool earlier this month.

He has, however, featured in every Championship fixture since joining the Black Cats at the end of the summer transfer window. He will be pushing for a starting berth when they face Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Tuesday night.
