Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Gustave actor Charlie Cox is "thrilled" about his Game Awards nomination, but insists "any credit I get" should go to his character's motion capture actor instead

Charlie Cox has received several nominations this award season for his role in voicing Gustave in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but at a recent press conference, he passed on the credit for the role to French actor Maxence Cazorla, saying that his acting "was just part of the process."

Speaking specifically about his Best Performance nomination at The Game Awards 2025, Cox says that "any nomination or any credit" for Gustave's performance should be given to the motion capture artist, Maxence Cazorla. Cazorla played multiple parts in Clair Obscur, including Gustave, Esquie, Vers,o and Renoir, providing both the motion capture work and the French voice acting for these characters.

The Best Performance award is described as being granted to "an individual for voice-over acting, motion and/or performance capture." However, every nominee in The Game Awards history has been given to a voice actor – though some, like Kratos' Christopher Judge, and Senua's Melina Juergens, provide both the voice and performance capture for their characters.

"I'm thrilled for this nomination," Cox says. "I've said this before, and I think it's important to say that there's an amazing French actor by the name of Maxence Cazorla, who did almost all of the motion capture for that role, in that game. So any nomination or any credit I get, I really have to give to him, because I believe that the performance of that character is really down to him, and my voice was just part of that process."

Kudos to Cox for standing up for just one of the many unsung heroes of the gaming industry.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is your Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2025, because of course it is
