Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 gets a surprise update for the RPG's first anniversary and, my god, Monoco has braids now: "This expedition WILL be strutting around"

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 came out an entire year ago and developer Sandfall Interactive is celebrating the inevitable passage of time with a surprise update that fixes some bugs, gives the cast new haircuts, and, my god, just look at Monoco's braids. Are they French?

"We're pushing a fun little update live today - a new set of haircuts will be available to collect in-game," the developer tweets. "This expedition WILL be strutting around in style for their first anniversary." And strut they do because these new hairdos are swanky enough for all those awards ceremonies the RPG's been sweeping.

Should you be jumping into the game to celebrate the milestone, Gustave's Anniversary haircut is available at the Gestral Merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs, while Verso, Maelle, Lune, Sciel, and Monoco's new trims can be found at the world map merchant near Grosse Tete, per the latest patch notes.

Elsewhere in the stealth update, Sandfall has fixed "an issue where [the] Danseuse outfit for Lune and Sciel made the character menu too obscur." Nice. Collision issues, some vague achievement text, and an issue "where it was not possible to open a rest point in various locations when an in-world dialogue was playing" have also been ironed out.

Sandfall notes that players can report bugs via its official Typeform should this new update unexpectedly break anything. "And most importantly, thank you for all of your support this entire year!! We wish you a wonderful anniversary day and hope you enjoy some cake to celebrate with us!"

The small French RPG that could has snowballed into a major hit in the last year. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 recently followed Baldur's Gate 3 to become only the second game to win every major game of the year award, but the game's done more than garner a whole bunch of critical acclaim.

It's sold upwards of five million copies, and I always see at least a handful of baguette-waving, striped-t-shirt-wearing fans at every nerd convention I go to. The true test of whether something has cultural impact.

As Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 further proves Jennifer English is a GOTY magician, one of her co-stars is "happy to follow" her to whatever she does next
