Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is beautiful and melancholy, sure, but I think there are two adjectives that go above all others: French and sexy. That's how co-stars Jennifer English (Maelle) and Ben Starr (Verso) see it, at least.
Asked what excited him about taking on the role of Verso in a new Future Games Show interview, Starr says that "It cannot be understated how sexy this game looked." (I'm sorry to be pedantic, Ben, but I think you meant "overstated.")
"I am such a huge turn-based RPG fan," Starr continues, "so what excited me most is being a part of something like that. This is inspired by the games that I grew up with. So, it was really cool, and [Verso] was so sexy."
"Do you think they would be as sexy if they weren't French?" English, who's sitting across the table from Starr during the interview, asks her co-star.
"I think about this all the time," he responds.
"French people are just sexier," English asserts.
"Yeah," Starr agrees. "I get really intimidated. We went to Paris recently for the concert and how sexy everyone was there."
"Everyone was so sexy."
"It was wild and everyone just looked cool," Starr concludes.
Starr and English go on to reminisce about trying to bust out some wine at the concert event early and being firmly told off by the event staff for the attempt. French people may be good at being sexy and making cool RPGs, but I guess they're a lot stingier with wine than all the other cultural stereotypes would've led me to believe.
