Conservative concerns that Ayrshire is seen as a "less desirable” place to live than anywhere else have been rebuffed by the administration.
Irvine councillor Matthew McLean told the full council that a report by the Scottish Government called Private Sector Rents Statistics Scotland painted the county in an undesirable light.
He said at a meeting of the full council: “The most recent update for this was 2010-22.
“In this report it was found that the Ayrshires were the only place where prices and rents contracted and every other area had an increase and they said it was down to lower demand and desirability,
"Why does the member think that Ayrshire is considered less desirable than the rest of Scotland.”
Cabinet Member for Place, Scott Davidson said: “I assume Councillor McLean is referring to the BBC article What’s Next For Scotland’s Housing Market, which was published on October 19.
“It’s probably very pertinent for me to point out there have been very positive articles in publications in recent months about Ayrshire being a most desirable place to live.
“My answer in short is I do not consider Ayrshire to be any less desirable than the rest of Scotland and anyone thinking of moving to Ayrshire I would highly recommend them to do so.”
