CK Power Public Company Limited (CKP), the leader in hydroelectric power plants, has set its sights on becoming one of the largest business operators generating and distributing power from renewable energy sources in Southeast Asia, with one of the lowest carbon footprints.
CK Power PLC aka “CKP” was founded by CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited Group aka “CH Karnchang Group” which registered its incorporation on 8 June 2011 with the objective to become the centre of CH Karnchang Group’s focus on investment in the business of generation of electricity from various types of energy sources.

Since the company was founded, it has received recognitions and a wide range of awards for sustainability achievements, both domestically and regionally, including SET Awards 2022 (Rising Star) and Thailand Sustainability Investment (THSI). Internationally, the company also won the Best Green Bond Hydropower Plant Framework from International Finance Awards and Most Sustainable Hydro Power Company from The Global Economics Awards. KEY REGIONAL CLEAN ELECTRICITY PRODUCER
CKP aims to be one of the Southeast Asia region’s largest producers of electricity from renewable sources with one of the lowest carbon footprints that uses clean energy sources such as water, wind and sunlight to generate electricity. This helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change in which CKP aims to reach net zero emissions by 2050 and plays a key role in helping strengthen Thailand’s long-term energy security.
CKP’s power generation capacity stood at 2,167 megawatts last year, 89% of which was generated from renewable sources. The company will double its electricity generation capacity to 4,800 megawatts by 2024, mostly from renewable energy, as the company continues to focus on clean power development.
Under the new capacity, the proportion of renewable power will increase to 95%. Not only the government and CKP pay attention to clean power but also consumers, as evidenced by increasing internet searches using terms like “net zero” where the Google Trend has increased up to 330%. The number of internet users searching “Charging Station” and “EV” has increased up to 50% and 90% respectively.
Some 70% of Thailand’s primary energy is currently generated by natural gas, coal and oil with renewable energy accounting for the other 10%.
Last year, CKP’s clean power generation capacity stood at 9,883,066 MWh or about 4.5% of nationwide power production. This could help Thailand achieve the goal of using 50% renewable energy sources by 2050.
