CK Nayudu Trophy: Shams Mulani grabs five to restrict Karnataka

MUMBAI: The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is turning out to be a happy hunting ground for Shams Mulani, who has taken 'fivers' with ridiculous consistency at that venue this season.

Almost a month after his Ranji Trophy exploits there, the left-arm spinning allrounder took yet another five-wicket haul five for 52 to help Mumbai bowl out Karnataka for just 204 on Day One of their Col CK Nayudu Trophy (U-25) quarterfinal on Tuesday.

This is his fifth five-wicket haul in his fourth game, all at the same venue. In the league stage of the Ranji Trophy, he took 4-55 & 7-114 vs Saurashtra), 6-107 & 5-60 vs Goa, and then 2-53 & 5-64 vs Odhisha. "Yes, I think it's a lucky ground for me," Mulani said with a grin, while talking to TOI. "All the credit goes to my parents, coaches and teammates for always backing me," he added.

"It was a good collective effort by our bowlers . We were bowling in partnerships and getting some help in the first session," the 25-year-old said.

Brief Scores:

Karnataka 204 (BR Sharath 45, Shubhang Hegde 45*; Shams Mulani 5-52) vs Mumbai 88-2 (Divyaansh Saxena 45*, Armaan Jaffer 26*)
