City police commissioner suspends Banjara Hills inspector

Hyderabad

In the wake of Radisson Blu Plaza’s ‘Pudding & Mink’ pub drugs case, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand suspended Banjara Hills inspector P Shiva Chandra as he failed to initiate action to control drugs and narcotics in the pub which went beyond stipulated time in his jurisdiction.

The Commissioner also issued a charge memo to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Banjara Hills division) M Sudrashan and asked for an explanation. “Action was taken for their negligence towards their legitimate duties in the control of narcotics in pubs and bars,” Mr. Anand said.

“Such things can’t happen without his connivance or notice. He was aware of late night activities in the hotel, but shunned to take action,” the senior officer said.

Hours after Mr. Shiva Chandra was placed under suspension, his batchmate and Task Force (North Zone) inspector Kortala Nageswar Rao was posted as Station House Officer of uptown Banjara Hills police station. As inspector Task Force, Mr. Rao busted and cracked several sensational cases, including the recent arrest of Nigerian drug peddler Tony. Popular as ‘Task Force Nageswar Rao’, a sub-inspector of 2004 batch, he reported to his senior officers and took charge of the uptown police station in the city.
