A traffic system in the heart of the City of London is being revamped under a major improvement programme near Bank station.
Queen Victoria Street will close permanently to vehicles where it meets Bank Junction, one of the busiest junctions in the capital, from February 13.
Meanwhile, a temporary one-way system will be introduced westbound in Mansion House Street, with a diversion route in place for eastbound traffic, including cycles.
The work marks the next phase of All Change At Bank, a City of London Corporation scheme timed to coincide with Transport for London’s Bank station upgrade.
City of London Corporation Planning and Transportation Committee Chairman Shravan Joshi said: “The overall work programme at Bank Junction will make it a safer, more pleasant environment to travel through. This will be furthered by this next phase in the project.
“It means we can enhance this public space in line with our Destination City policy to make the Square Mile a desirable, safe and inclusive visitor destination.”

Buses which currently travel along the northern part of Queen Victoria Street, including routes 11 and 26, will be permanently re-routed via Queen Street.
The temporary one-way system, which runs until July, will see a westbound-only one-way route in Mansion House Street, with access to Cornhill eastbound maintained via Princes Street southbound.
Road users are advised journeys may take longer than normal during the work, with diversions and temporary traffic signals in place.
The latest work is the fourth of seven phases of the All Change at Bank scheme, due for overall completion in the spring of 2024.
