The demolition of buildings at a Nottingham hospital has been planned to make way for a huge regeneration project. A plan has been put forward to knock down two one-storey workshops at City Hospital to prepare for the construction of new wards and hospital areas.
The workshops are being demolished due to their "age and dilapidation" to make way for new wards and theatres which are subject to a separate planning application as part of the huge Tomorrow's NUH project. Tomorrow’s NUH documents have revealed the aim for City Hospital to become a 'centre of excellence', bringing together theatres, critical care and inpatient beds in one part of the site.
The site is proposed to be levelled off and converted in the future into new modular wards and hospital surgical areas. The area will be left as a flat stoned-up site until construction begins.

The method of demolition will be traditional top-down demolition, according to planning documents. The spoil and rubble will be removed from site by the contractor before being reclaimed and disposed of.
The works are expected to commence on October 16, 2022 and be finished on December 2, 2022. The plan is currently pending consideration by Nottingham City Council, and planning documents have said the applicant was previously informed the proposed demolition would not be objected to by city council planners as part of the regeneration of the City Campus.
