Police in Nottingham have closed down a number of city centre roads due to what they are describing as a major incident. Members of the public have been warned to stay away from the area and use alternative routes.
NottinghamLive has reported that at least six roads are closed and huge police cordons are in place due to the incident. Chief Inspector Neil Humphries, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers are currently on scene at multiple road closures due to an ongoing incident. Please avoid these areas as they are expected to remain closed for some time.”
The Nottingham Express Transit (NET) tram network said it has suspended all services due to “major police incidents around the city and suburbs”, Nottinghamshirelive reports.

In a further statement, Nottingham Police said: "There are multiple road closures in place throughout the city while the incident is being investigated. We are asking the public and motorists to please avoid the following areas and plan alternate routes.”
Ilkeston Road in Radford, Magdala Road, near Mapperley Park, Maples Street, Hyson Green, and Woodborough Road - from the junction of Magdala Road heading into the city - and Maid Marian Way at the junction of Parliament Street are all closed.
The A6008 Upper Parliament Street is currently closed from the junction with Maid Marian Way, towards the Theatre Royal. Police, paramedics and firefighters are all at the scene, along with specialist rescue unit vehicles.
The A60 Mansfield Road is also closed between Woodborough Road, towards Mapperley and St Ann’s, and Shakespeare Street, near the Victoria Centre. While Milton Street, the street parallel to the main entrance to the shopping centre, and Burton Street are also closed in the city centre. All tram services have been suspended, due to what has been described as a ‘major police incident, and tram tickets are being accepted on NCT buses.
Operator Trent Barton has confirmed that the Victoria Bus Station is closed because of this morning’s incident. In a post at 8.15am this morning, the operator said: “Our information is that these closures will be in place for some time. Traffic in the city is expected to be really heavy and likely to cause delays to all services in the area, so please bear with us.”
Local resident Glen Gretton said he was woken up at around 5am on Tuesday morning by the sounds of a series of police cars passing his home. The 46-year-old delivery driver, who lives in a flat in Mansfield Road in Sherwood, told the PA news agency: “I heard a police car go past. It was driving extremely quickly, followed by another one, another one. They just kept coming so I knew something quite major … was happening somewhere around the city centre.”
