Cineworld yobs 'headbutted' doors and yelled abuse at staff

Yob nuisance flared again this week at a retail park where youths were seen “headbutting” doors to a cinema and being abusive to staff.

Cheshire Police said officers were called to reports of anti-social behaviour outside Cineworld on Trident retail park in Runcorn on Tuesday evening. Witnesses reported youths hurling abuse at staff and kicking and headbutting the doors, but moved on while the scenes were being described over the phone.

Commenting on the Halton Homewatch page, a shocked Facebook user urged parents to have “a word” with their children if they “hang around the (Shopping) City”. They said: “Kicking in doors and being abusive is not the way forward in life.

“Check your kids’ phones, people. Public shouldn't have to suffer.”

A Cheshire Police spokesman told the ECHO: “At around 8.15pm on Tuesday, January 24, police were called to reports of anti-social behaviour at the cinema at Trident retail park.

“The caller reported a group of youths outside the building, who were being abusive to staff and kicking and headbutting the doors.

“The group left the scene while the caller was on the phone speaking to police and were not deployed to the incident.”

The incident followed another police attendance in the area the night before, when patrols were called to a “burglary” in the grounds of the Millbank recruitment office at the junction of West Lane and Northway, where a large group of youths had congregated.

They fled when police arrived, and officers found no sign of a break-in. The Cheshire Police spokesman continued: “At 7.03pm on Monday, January 23, police were called to reports of a burglary on Northway, Runcorn.

“The caller reported a group of youths were in the garden area of the premises. Police swiftly attended the scene and the group fled the scene on foot. There was no sign of any break-in and no damage to the premises.”

The Halton Lea shopping area of Runcorn around Shopping City and Trident Park have suffered spates of yob nuisance and other incidents in recent years, resulting in the authorities resorting to imposing dispersal zones at times.
