Former Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad Gardner is one of the most coveted defensive backs in the 2022 NFL draft.
A large reason for the great interest in Gardner is his touchdowns allowed streak. The 6-3, 200-pound cornerback did not allow a single touchdown catch in the more than 1,000 snaps he played for the Bearcats from 2019-21.
Gardner joined The Richard Sherman Podcast and explained that the impetus for his streak wasn’t borne out of any desire for accolades. Rather, Gardner wanted to ensure he was giving maximum effort to help his team win.
“I was never going into a game, like, ‘Yeah, I better make sure I don’t allow a touchdown,'” Gardner said. “You know, because at the end of the day, I like playing with my brothers. I’m a team player. I’m not really not thinking about anything individually going into the game. I just feel like that came with my preparation leading up to the week, leading up to the game. That’s just what came with it. It’s all God. I feel like He blessed me with that.”

“I was never coming into a game thinking I gotta make sure I don’t allow a touchdown, I’m a team player… (God) blessed me with that.”

The Texans have considerably interest in Gardner with coach Lovie Smith having had a meeting with the cornerback after his pro day. Houston also brought in Gardner for a visit.
