The Financial intelligence Unit of CID, probing PSI recruitment irregularities, found that one among the 545 candidates selected attended only 12 questions, yet obtained 120 marks to score highest in the list.
Based on the findings, the investigating officer K.H. Dileep Kumar, filed a complaint with the Chowk police station in Kalaburgi seeking legal action against Veeresh, a candidate from Kalaburgi.
Based on a complaint, the police have registered a case against Veeresh on Saturday charging him under cheating, forgery, fraud and criminal conspiracy.
Mr. Kumar, in his complaint, said that the accused had attended only 12 questions which he knew and the rest he had left blank and submitted the OMR sheet. The OMR sheet was later filled with right answers by his associates to get him the full marks of 120 to make him top the list of selected candidates.
The CID, which took up the investigations, compared the OMR sheets, including a copy of the script which Veeresh had and the submitted one, to unearth the scam.
Veeresh has not only conspired with others to fraudulently get into the police department, but also deprived the chances of genuine candidates, officials said.
The CID suspects that there are many people involved in the scam and said a detailed investigation is needed.
