Ciaran Jenkins to leave role as Scotland correspondent for Channel 4 News

CHANNEL 4’s high profile Scotland correspondent is leaving the country for a new role in England.

Ciaran Jenkins has been the broadcaster’s man north of the Border for five years and is taking a new job in Leeds, Yorkshire.

The Welsh journalist was involved with the creation of Channel 4 News’ Scottish bureau and said he found it an “immense privilege to… help it grow from strength to strength”.

In a Twitter thread, he said he would taken on a new correspondent and presenter role in Leeds later this spring.

He said: “After five wonderful years covering Scotland I am taking up a new Correspondent-Presenter role at the heart of our brand new Leeds studio. Super excited to be leading a new data specialism and absolutely thrilled to be joining the [Channel 4 News] presenting team.

“Our fantastic new studio is currently taking shape in Leeds ready to launch later in the Spring and I'm really delighted to be involved in its output from the off.

“I was an immense privilege to set up [Channel 4 News’] new Scotland bureau in 2018 and help it grow from strength to strength. Over the years it's also been an honour to meet so many of our viewers out and about - we really do have the most wonderful audience!

In a press release, Channel 4 News editor Esme Wren said: “Since 2012, Ciaran has brought exceptional and insightful journalism to audiences from across the UK.

"We are delighted that he will be a cornerstone of our new venture in Leeds, as we expand our data-led specialist unit in the city.

“With data increasingly at the heart of the fight for truth, and innovation in digital output central to engagement with young audiences, Ciaran will bring his vast experience and instinct for accessible reporting and presentation to this vital new role.”
