Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea transfer could be impacted by Thomas Tuchel relationship

The summer transfer window could be a busy one for Chelsea.

The Blues did not do any business - in terms of incomings - in January, despite a host of new names being linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.

Ousmane Dembele was the man with possibly the strongest links with a move to west London with the France international's situation at Barcelona being monitored by the Blues.

Dembele and Thomas Tuchel worked with each other during their days at Borussia Dortmund and the now Chelsea boss was said to be keen on a possible reunion.

However, it's another one of Tuchel's former players that is now being linked with a move to west London.

According to Footmercato, RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku could be looking to 'take a new step' in his career, with Chelsea, as well as Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all said to be keen on his services.

Leipzig, though, will not entertain any offers under €75million (£62m) for Nkunku, who has been in fine form for the Germans this term.

The 24-year-old has scored an incredible 24 goals in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season - and in the process, has become one of the most talked about talents in European football.

Tuchel was appointed as PSG boss in the summer of 2018 and in his first season in charge in Paris, Nkunku made 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals. That campaign was not enough to convince Tuchel, or perhaps vice-versa, with Nkunku then moving to RB Leipzig the following summer.

Speaking in October 2021, Nkunku opened up on his relationship with Tuchel and admitted the arrival of the German coach at the Parc des Princes made him question his future at the club.

Talking to Canal Plus last year, the Frenchman said: “The arrival of Tuchel made me think.

"The fact of starting a season without really knowing what role you are going to have, it’s quite complicated. There comes a time when you come to the end of your contract and you have one year left, either you extend or you leave, I made the choice to simply leave."

As mentioned above, Nkunku has been in fine form since moving to Leipzig and his former manager, Jesse Marsch - who has recently been appointed as Leeds United boss - believes the Frenchman "has no weaknesses".

Marsch said to Leipzig's website in September of last year: "We have spoken to Christopher a lot about playing on the counter, and also what he needs to do to play as a striker, a number 10 and on both wings.

"Christopher has no weaknesses. He is young and still wants a lot more. It’s always a good thing when a young player listens to the things we say and also wants to implement them. Working with him is a lot of fun as he is really intelligent and has a lot of potential."
