Christopher Jullien has been caught up in shocking scenes in France following his exit from Celtic, as tear gas was reportedly fired onto the field during his latest game.
The towering defender has joined Montpellier after leaving Celtic in the summer following limited games under Ange Postecoglou, and they faced off against Toulouse in a Ligue 1 match. It has been marred by controversy following the use of 'tear gas' at the game, according to broadcaster BT Sport. The 22 players, officials and staff were seen rushing to the touchline of the pitch before and the match was paused by the referee for over 15 minutes.
Cameras caught some stars holding shirts over their noses with some seeing Jullien on the left doing the same and looking to be coughing and drinking water before returning to the pitch after the initial storm had passed. A commentator said that whatever was on the pitch may have been causing respiratory issues for the players.

He explained: “By the way that several of the players are holding their shirts over their nose you would think that there might have been something let off which is interfering a bit with their respiratory system but that’s just pure speculation of course.”
It was an entertaining game on the pitch as Toulouse ran out 4-2 winners. Nicolas Cozza put Jullien's side ahead but the former Celtic Park defender was soon dismayed.
Stijn Spierings, Zakaria Aboukhlal, Fares Chaibi and Brecht Dejaeghere all netted to make Elye Wahi's goal a consolation for Montpellier, with the home team reduced to 10 men after Mikkel Desler's red card.
