Celtic defender Christopher Jullien could still be on the move to Bundesliga club Schalke after their sporting director confirmed a deal for the centre-back isn't dead.
The 29-year-old returned to Lennoxtown for pre-season training earlier this week but was quickly jetting off to Germany to see if he could finalise a transfer out of Parkhead after an injury-hit 18 months. No agreement on personal terms meant Jullien headed back to the Hoops and he has now returned to pre-season training ahead of the new Premiership campaign.
Schalke have provided fresh intrigue though by confirming that despite an initial breakdown in talks, a transfer for Jullien is still in the works. Speaking to German publication WAZ, club sporting director Rouven Schroder said: "There are moments when we have to say no. But it carries on. Christopher is back training at Celtic. A great player. We’ll continue working here. Let’s see what happens."

Jullien first joined the club in 2019 from Toulouse and made a big impression in his first term, scoring the winner in the League Cup final before a knee injury in January 2021 disrupted his progress.
It's been a busy summer of incomings at Parkhead with boss Ange Postecoglou making loan deals for Daizen Maeda, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota permanent.
Benjamin Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei meanwhile have joined from Dundee United and Lanus respectively.
Their season gets underway competitively later this month when a Premiership title defence begins at home to Aberdeen.
