Christopher Esber’s star continues to rise.
Overnight, the Australian designer took home the Grand Prize at the 2024 ANDAM Fashion Awards in Paris.
The jury for the 35th anniversary edition of the prestigious awards revealed their choice on the final night of Couture Week, awarding Esber the top gong from a pool of 12 finalists. The Sydney-based designer will not only receive a €300,000 (approx. $483,000) grant to bolster his label, but a year-long mentorship from Saint Laurent creative director (and ANDAM judge) Anthony Vaccarello, as well as a Swarovski trophy.
The Sydney-based womenswear designer is no doubt in good company, with the award’s previous recipients including Martin Margiela, Jeremy Scott and Vaccarello himself.
Esber launched his label back in 2010 and in the decade-and-a-half since, has become one of Australia’s most renowned and beloved fashion exports. He made the jump from showing at Australian to Paris Fashion Week last year, presenting his spring/summer 2023 collection in the Jardin de Trocadéro. His Parisian debut was well-received, undeniably winning him even more A-list fans than he already boasted.
As well as having the favour of fashion editors, Esber counts Zendaya, Hailey Bieber, Dua Lipa, Greta Lee and many, many more as fans.
Armed with his grant and mentorship, we cannot wait to see what Esber does next.
