Christmas toy crazes anxious parents in Liverpool would have spent hours queuing to buy

Every year at Christmas there's one toy that becomes so popular parents will do almost anything to get their hands on it in time for the big day.

One of the great benefits of the internet is that much of the seasonal shopping can be done from the comfort of your own sofa. However, this doesn't guarantee you'll get your hands on that year's most sought after toy or games console, particularly when demand outstrips supply.

But if this is still a pitfall today, spare a thought for the poor parents back in the 1980s and 1990s. Frantic mums and dads were forced to queue for hours, or trudge from shop to shop, just to get that year's must-have toy and salvage Father Christmas' reputation.
