Christmas shoppers were this morning evacuated from Ayr Central Shopping Centre.
Scores of people were asked to head for the exits to the centre, in Skye Square, at around 10.30am.
It is understood that a change in temperature caused by damp and humid conditions, activated an alarm, but the centre is back trading as normal.
The centre boasts a variety of fashion stores including Next, River Island and New Look, as well as Primark, Costa Coffee and JD Sports.
A spokesperson for Ayr Central Shopping Centre said: "There has been no incident.
"The alarms were activated by humid/damp conditions due to change of temperature and volume of cars. The centre is back trading as normal."
