Christmas Day bank holiday 2022 moved from December 25 to midweek date

The Christmas Day bank holiday for 2022 will be moved from December 25 to December 27.

When Christmas day falls on a weekend, as it will this year, an alternative day is chosen for the occasion. As it falls on Sunday, the bank holiday will be moved to Tuesday after Boxing day, to give Brits a much needed extra day off.

The New Year's bank holiday will happen on January 2. Scotland will see another bank holiday fall on January 3, as a "substitute day" for January 2, but this will not be seen in the rest of the UK.
