It’s less than 100 days until December 25 and many of you may have already started picking up the odd bits and bobs for your festive feasts to help spread the cost of Christmas throughout the rest of the year. A jar of cranberry sauce here, a bottle of mulled wine there.
And of course, it’s not Christmas without rummaging through the family chocolate tin for the best ones (Strawberry Dreams and Cadbury Caramel, obviously - keep your Bountys).
Each year, supermarkets battle it out to offer shoppers the best prices on these festive confectionery tins, including Quality Street, Heroes, Celebrations and Roses - so we’ll be taking a look at the prices as they fluctuate in the countdown to Christmas.

Manchester Evening News will be keeping a close eye on Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Ocado, Morrisons, Asda, Aldi, B&M and Iceland to see which is offering the best deal week on week, and where to get the cheapest chocolate ready for the big day.
This week, Tesco have launched their popular Clubcard deal, while Iceland are offering two boxes for £8 - but WHO has got the best festive chocolate bargains? You can check out all of the sizes, prices and deals below.
Tesco
Tesco have launched their popular Clubcard deal on festive chocolate boxes which sees selected tubs reduced if you hold one of their loyalty cards. Shoppers can pick up their 600g boxes of Quality Street, Heroes and Roses for £4 each, or two for £7 with the Clubcard. The best deal on these boxes though is on the Celebrations, which hold an extra 50g of chocolate, making them just 62p per 100g, instead of 67p.
Smaller pouches, bags and cartons are available, too, some of which also benefit from Clubcard offers. Loyal Tesco shoppers can get 382g of Quality Street for £2.50 instead of £3.50, a 385g tub of Celebrations for £4 instead of £5, or 3 70g for £2.50 down from £3.50.
Roses are also on offer for the 357g pouch for £2.50 instead of £3.50 with a Clubcard.
At Tesco, the cheapest chocolates are the 650g Celebrations at 62p per 100g, while the most expensive is the 220g box of Quality Street, working out at £1.37 per 100g.
Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s have slashed the prices of some of their smaller chocolate cartons, but have a really good, wide range of options available at different price points.
Shoppers can pick up a huge 871g Quality Street tin for £7.50, or opt for the ‘regular’ 600g size for £5, which works out 2p cheaper per 100g. There’s also a 382g bag for £3.50, and pricier per 100g still is the 220g box at £3, costing £1.36 per 100g.
Fan fave Heroes come in a 900g tub for £10, and I don’t think you need me to do the math to know it’s more than £1 per 100g there. The petter choice for Heroes is the 600g tub, which is half the price at a fiver, costing 83p per 100g.
Those with smaller families may want to get the 382g or 220g pots, but these are priced at £3.50 and £3 respectively, totalling 98p and £1.04 per 100g.
Celebrations are the store’s cheapest chocolates, costing 77p per 100g for the 650g tub, which is currently £5. Alternatively, there are 370g and 240g pouches for £3.50 and £3, but again, these work out more expensive in the long run - and we certainly can’t see them being tucked away until December, either.
Shoppers who favour the more sophisticated Roses tins can bag 900g for a tenner, while 600g is just £5, making them 83p per 100g, so not a bad deal at all. The 357g pouches come in at £3.50 - still less than a quid per 100g, and the 290g box was originally £4, but at the moment, is down to £3. This means that Celebrations’ 650g boxes are the cheapest to buy at 77p per 100g, while the smallest Quality Street box works out most expensive.
Ocado
Ocado currently has a cracking deal on a giant box of Heroes, which sees a whopping 2kg box slashed from £23 to £16.50. The huge box of confectionery works out at 82.5p per 100g, which is cheaper than their 600g boxes, which are £5 and equal around 83.3p per 100g. Just as well, really seeing as the 600g tin is out of stock.
The 357g boxes are down to £5 for £6.30 - the same as their offer on the equal weight box of Roses - and their 290g box is £4, or two for £6, which can be mix and matched with the Roses.
Quality Street are fairly priced on Ocado, coming in at £8 for an 871g box, totalling 92p per 100g. Though it’s still cheaper to get the 600g box at £5, working out at 83p for the same amount. Their small 220g boxes are on offer from £3.15 to £2, which makes a mice little gift for a teacher or colleague, costing 91p per 100g.
Celebrations reign as the cheapest chocs here too, also 77p per 100g, costing a fiver for a 650g box. You have to be careful though, as there’s also a 385g box that’s also £5 - so you definitely want to go large to get the most for your money, even though the medium tin is on a two for £8 deal, the big box is still better value.
Meanwhile shoppers can get a 370g box for £4, down from £5, but they can get an extra 10g of chocolate for the same price with the 380g box.
Roses are most expensive on Ocado, and one of the most expensive overall, with a limited edition 432g tin coming in at £6 - or £1.62 per 100g. Shoppers would be better off getting the 357g pouch for £5, down from £6.30, or better still, the 800g tub that was £12, and down to £10, working out greater value still.
Aldi
Aldi is home to the cheapest of ALL the chocolate in this list, with the 650g Celebrations tin costing £3.99 - or 61p per 100g. That’s a whole pound cheaper than most retailers, but still undercuts the likes of Tesco and Asda, who have them priced at £4.
While Aldi may not have a great deal of choice when it comes to festive treat boxes, they do also stock the 600g tubs of Quality Street online, also £3.99, making them an affordable 67p per 100g.
Morrisons
Morrisons is stocking all the family favourites this year, but you need to know which to shop for the best deals. It’s better to go big on Quality Street at Morrisons where a 600g box is £4.99. It’s a better offer than the 382g pouch that’s £4, and still works out cheaper overall than the 220g cartons that are £2, down from £3.
A 600g box of Heroes is the same price as Quality Street, as is the 600g of Roses and 650g of Celebrations.
The 357g bags of Heroes and Roses are both £4, costing £1.12 per 100g - Morrisons’ most expensive offers. Shoppers can also pick up 370g of Celebrations for £4, or 186g of Roses for £2, slashed from £3 - but going for the bigger tins will save you money overall.
Asda
The majority of Asda’s offerings see each of the chocolates priced below £1 per 100g, making them cheaper overall on average - but not necessarily the cheapest overall.
Those looking to stock their pantry with seasonal snacks early can get 600g of Quality Street, Heroes or Roses for £4, while 650g of Celebrations is the same price. As well as the lower price, those who have the Asda Rewards app can claim £1 to add to their cashpot on the app, which can be used towards their next shop. In theory, you could say that makes the boxes £3, depending on how you look at it.
Asda’s most expensive chocolates come in the smallest tubs, costing £3 for 290g of Roses or Heroes, which is the equivalent of £1.03 per 100g - though still not the most expensive we’ve seen this week at other retailers.
Options with prices somewhere in the middle sees 357g of Heroes cost £3.50 with a 75p cash reward on the app, which matches the price of 382g of Quality Street, while 380g of Celebrations is just £3 with 75p back on the app.
Finally, a small 220g carton of Quality Street costs just £2, working out at 91p per 100g, which isn’t bad going.
B&M
Bargain hunters can head to B&M to snap up 450g of Quality Street for £3 - or 78p per 100g. The big 650g Celebrations tins are also in stock coming in at £5, which works out the same price per 100g as the 388g bag, costing £3. A smaller 370g bag is also £3, so it’s worth supersizing here for sure.
Heroes cost around £1 per 100g with a 900g tin coming in at £8.99, while a small 290g box is £2.99. Roses are priced exactly the same for their equivalent boxes.
Iceland
Iceland don’t have a great deal of chocolate choices online yet - with Roses noticeably missing from their site. Shoppers can grab 600g of Quality Street for a fiver though, or two tubs for £8 costing 83p per 100g. You may be surprised to find that it’s cheaper to get the slightly smaller boxes for a better deal though - as the 382g bags are now £3 down from £3.50 - making them 79p per 100g. Those multi buying for gifts can stock up on the smaller 220g boxes, which are £2.50 each or three for £5 - or, three for two, depending on how you want to look at it.
Heroes are a little pricier, costing the same amount of money, with the same three for £5 deal - but for just 185g boxes, working out at £1.35 per 100g - so we recommend opting for Quality Street if you’re adamant on shopping at Iceland.
Celebrations remain cheap and cheerful, costing £5 for 650g, or two for £8, while their 370g bag is £3 - or 81p per 100g.
Cheapest Quality Street this week
The cheapest Quality Streets this week can be found at Aldi, Tesco and Asda, costing 67p per 100g. Tesco and Asda are both selling 600g boxes for £4, while Aldi’s undercuts them by 1p at £3.99. Really, it depends on the one closest to you, because there’s no point driving further and using petrol to save that penny at Aldi if you usually do your weekly food shop at Tesco, where you can take advantage of the two for £7 deal, too.
Cheapest Heroes this week
Tesco has been crowned the cheapest for Heroes this week, with their 600g box costing £4. It’s also included in the two for £7 Clubcard offer. Close behind was Ocado’s whopping 2kg box for £16.50 - or 83p per 100g. Potentially a good one if you’re planning to throw a big party.
Cheapest Celebrations this week
Celebrations seem to be the cheapest chocolates across the board, but the absolute cheapest you can pick them up is at Aldi, where they’re £3.99 for 650g - working out at 61p per 100g. We think that’ll be a difficult offer to beat in the upcoming weeks.
Cheapest Roses this week
Shoppers at Asda and Tesco can pick up packs of Roses for 67p per 100g. Tesco’s 600g boxes - included in the two for £7 - cost £4 per box, which is price matched at Asda. The benefit of Asda is that you do get £1 back on the app, which can be used against your next shop, so you’ve got to weigh it up carefully.
Most expensive chocolate overall
The most expensive chocolates on the list were the limited edition Roses, costing £7 for a 432g tin. This worked out at £1.62 per 100g - 22p more than even the second most expensive chocolates. We recommend sticking to Tesco or Asda for the best offer on these much loved chocs.
