Christian Pulisic transfer faces key obstacle as Chelsea eye Mykhaylo Mudryk Arsenal hijack

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic could leave the club this month if the Blues acquire a winger in the January transfer window. Three arrivals at Stamford Bridge have already been confirmed with David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos and Benoit Badiashile joining the club for combined fees over £60million, and Todd Boehly does not appear satisfied just yet.

Two attacking Arsenal transfer targets in Mykhaylo Mudryk and Marcus Thuram are now firmly on the radar of Chelsea. Shakhtar Donetsk chief Darijo Srna was at Stamford Bridge on Thursday for the clash between Man City and Chelsea to discuss Mudryk, while the Blues are hopeful of securing a January deal for Thuram five months before his Borussia Monchengladbach contract expires.

Possible outgoings are also on the agenda in west London and one name linked closest with an exit is Pulisic. A great World Cup saw the Gunners reportedly register an interest in the USMNT star as granting him a move away was considered by those at the club.

A possible departure for Pulisic went quiet for a number of weeks as Graham Potter named the 24-year-old in a number of his starting line ups after the Premier League resumed on Boxing Day. Pulisic was withdrawn from their mid-week clash against City and looks set to be on the side lines with an injury after being left out of the FA Cup squad to face their opponents from earlier in the week.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given a new update on Pulisic where a departure looks set to only be sanctioned if Chelsea can bring in a replacement.

"At the moment, there is nothing concrete or advanced," Romano wrote on CaughtOffside. "But I’m told Christian Pulisic could leave the club in January if Chelsea bring in a new winger.

"Of course, it depends on clubs making offers and many other factors. As of now it’s a scenario and not a negotiation."

Thuram or Mudryk could certainly replace Pulisic at Chelsea and if it is the latter who joins the Blues despite months of links to Arsenal, a domino effect in transfers could occur. The Ukrainian winger snubbing the red side of London for the Blue would allow Pulisic to leave and with the Gunners therefore losing out on Mudryk in this scenario, Pulisic could be their January alternative to the 22-year-old.
