Christian Pulisic issues injury update as Chelsea sent return date hint amid Graham Potter plan

Christian Pulisic has issued a two-word hint on his Chelsea return date as he continues to nurse a knee injury. The 24-year-old came off second best in a collision with John Stones when the Blues locked horns with Manchester City in the Premier League earlier last month.

The United States international was growing into a prominent role under Graham Potter's side, starting in each of the west Londoners' league fixtures following the World Cup. Prior to the restart, Pulisic spent the majority of the season on the bench with just cameo displays to his name.

He had also begun to attract interest ahead of the January transfer window as Todd Boehly plotted a star-studded spending spree — which, of course, later came to fruition as Chelsea committed over £300million to the arrivals of seven new players. After a month on the sidelines, Pulisic has issued a fresh update on his injury.

The winger has posted an image on himself from when he limped off the pitch against City. Pulisic simply captioned his post: "Back soon."

A week or so after the American picked up the knock, Potter confirmed that he would be out for 'weeks'. The Chelsea boss said: "Christian opened up his knee in the game the other day, so we're still analysing it, but it is going to be weeks."

Then, a couple of days later, Potter insisted that Pulisic was never set to leave Chelsea in January regardless of his injury. Speaking to the press ahead of the Blues' tie with Crystal Palace, the 47-year-old said: "We never considered anything about that [a loan] anyway but he is a couple of months out. Yes, he is disappointed.

"He is optimistic about coming back quicker than two months. He is in that phase with his fingers crossed and hoping his rehab goes well."

Pulisic is one of numerous Chelsea players who have suffered injuries this season, with as many as 10 Blues stars once on the sidelines at one time. With new signings Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and Joao Felix set to take priority in team selections having impressed, opportunities could be hard to come by for the United States star.
