Former United States international Eric Wynalda has told Christian Pulisic to snub interest from Leeds United and, instead, join Newcastle United. The 24-year-old was heavily linked with an exit from Chelsea in the summer after having fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel.
But, even under new management with Graham Potter in the dugout, the winger has struggled to nail down a place in the Blues' starting eleven. Pulisic, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expiring in 2024, has featured eight times for the west Londoners in the Premier League this season, directly contributing towards two goals.
With an increasingly uncertain future at Chelsea, Todd Boehly has seemingly lined Pulisic up as leverage in a deal to sign Rafael Leao from AC Milan, reports claim. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the United States international would 'gladly accept' a move to the Rossoneri in January should he be included as part of swap deal for the Portuguese star.
It's said that the Italian giants have held a long interest in Pulisic. But, with a number of Premier League clubs said to be circling the winger's situation, he's been steered towards a move to St James' Park.
Speaking to the Vegas Insider, as quoted by Newcastle World, Wynalda said: "I think if he ends up making a move in January, after the World Cup, I am starting to lean more and more towards the direction of Newcastle.
"Things that I am hearing about the money they are going to splash is interesting. I don’t think Leeds, for example, would be a good spot for him.
"That’s not a team that is going to score a ton of goals. He’s going to be on the end of a lot of quality if he stays at Chelsea, he’s just not going to get the minutes that would equate to big numbers."
For now, Pulisic will be eager to impress Potter and secure some minutes ahead of the World Cup with the winter transfer window not open until January. This plays into Chelsea's hands; if he impresses then it'll boost his £44million valuation, if not then the Blues will be confident in their decision making.
