It could’ve ended a bit sweeter, but Christian McCaffrey’s run with the Carolina Panthers was certainly a memorable one. And on Friday morning, he thanked the organization for the memories.
About eight hours after he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers, the 26-year-old star took to social media to express his gratitude to the team that gave him his professional start.
I’m forever grateful for all of the people who have helped make these past 5 1/2 years so special for me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The Thursday night blockbuster deal capped off an almost six-season stay for McCaffrey, one that began with Panthers legend Thomas Davis announcing his name at the 2017 NFL draft. That announcement came at the eighth overall selection of the event, and the Stanford Cardinal didn’t look back since.
Over those five and a half years, McCaffrey made numerous imprints in the black and blue. He wraps up his tenure as the fourth-leading rusher in franchise history (3,980) while also having recorded the fifth-most yards from scrimmage (7,272) and scrimmage touchdowns (50). He also holds single-season and single-game Carolina records for scrimmage yards and receptions.
So one night and one more time—thanks for the memories, 22.
