Christian Eriksen set for Man Utd debut in secret friendly after training ground arrival

Christian Eriksen could make his first Manchester United outing in a friendly against non-league Wrexham.

The Red Devils, who have returned from their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, have two more official friendly fixtures before the new Premier League season starts next month.

Erik ten Hag’s side are scheduled to face Atletico Madrid in Oslo on Saturday, before a second-string side takes on Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford 24 hours later.

But it has now been revealed a behind-closed-doors bounce match is pencilled in against the National League outfit, and the game could act as Eriksen's first appearance in a United shirt. The match is said to be taking place on Wednesday at United's Carrington training facility.

It was initially believed to be a match against a United youth side, but our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News say Ten Hag plans to utilise some senior players in the match, with those in need of minutes ahead of the new season likely to be involved.

One of those could well be 30-year-old Eriksen, who signed for the club this summer after impressing in the second half of last season with top flight newcomers Brentford. He is yet to feature for United since arriving and the friendly against Phil Parkinson's side could be the perfect opportunity for him to get up and running.

The Denmark international did not meet up with his new side during their recent pre-season tour but was pictured in Manchester on Monday.

What impact will Eriksen have at United? Let us know in the comments

Upon arriving at the club, where he has penned a three-year contract, the former Tottenham and Inter Milan midfielder said: " Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling. I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey."

United begin their new era under the Dutchman at home to Brighton and Hove Albion on August 7.

As for Wrexham, they have bold plans under the ownership of Hollywood A-list duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. They fell short of promotion last season, losing in the play-off semi-finals.

But a concerted effort has been made to go one better and manager Phil Parkinson is fully aware of the pressure that comes with being labelled as favourites for the title. "The disappointment's happened and there's so much positivity in terms of what the club's trying to achieve on and off the pitch," said Parkinson.

"As much as we'll take that on the chin, there was a real good feel about the club straight away from the start of pre-season. Slowly but surely we are piecing the squad together to make sure we are stronger than we were last year."
