Christian Eriksen sends Manchester United statement as Jadon Sancho responds to England omission

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Thursday, September 15.

Duo shine in Sheriff victory

United posted the first victory of their Europa League campaign with a 2-0 triumph over Moldovan outfit Sheriff Tiraspol at the Zimbru Stadium on Thursday evening.

Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo both scored in the first half to ensure United got the job done with minimal fuss. Erik ten Hag's side dominated the contest from pretty much the first whistle and never once looked in danger.

It was just the sort of response that United's supporters and Ten Hag would have wanted after losing their Group E opener against Real Sociedad last week. Following the postponement of this coming Sunday's Premier League clash with Leeds United, Ten Hag chose to name a strong side, featuring a collection of household names, including Raphael Varane, Bruno Fernandes and Sancho.

Sancho was one of United's best players on the pitch, as was Christian Eriksen, who continues to go from strength to strength. The duo combined for the game's opening goal.

Sancho reacts to latest England snub

Sancho has vowed to continue working hard at club level after being left out of the England squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Italy and Germany.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has announced his 28-man squad for the scheduled clashes with the European giants and Sancho, along with fellow United ace Marcus Rashford, was overlooked. While Rashford's absence is down to an ongoing muscle injury, Sancho has been omitted from the squad for footballing reasons, leaving his World Cup hopes in serious doubt.

Despite the obvious disappointment, the former Borussia Dortmund man, who is now up to three goals this season in all competitions, is looking to remain positive and upbeat.
