Christian Eriksen makes admission about Manchester United midfield's remarkable record

Christian Eriksen says his collaboration with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes is one of the best midfields he has played in.

Manchester United have won 15, drawn two and lost none when Eriksen, Casemiro and Fernandes have started together and the trio were on vintage form in the 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Fernandes is suspended for United's Europa League quarter-final second leg against Sevilla on Thursday night and the fit-again Marcel Sabitzer could come in.

"Two very good football players," Eriksen said of Casemiro and Fernandes. "For me, it is easy. For anyone, to fill in the extra gap between them, it has been easy.

"It has been good. I didn’t even know we had that many games without losing but that's something in the future that we want to keep going.

"I think this midfield is one of the best I have been part of. Obviously, earlier I was a bit further up the pitch, more of a striker than a midfielder but still dropping down.

"I think midfield-wise, it's probably one of the best I've been in. And missing Bruno tomorrow, like when I was away, someone had to pick my pieces up and tomorrow someone has to fill the gap that he leaves behind."

Eriksen's start against Forest was his first in 78 days after he recovered from an ankle injury inflicted by Reading striker Andy Carroll in the FA Cup fourth round.

Carroll did not receive a booking for the foul but was later sent off for two bookable offences. "I was surprised he didn’t get a yellow," Eriksen admitted, "but at the time I didn’t think it was as bad.

"I didn’t fear for the season, I was more concerned for when I would be back. Luckily, the medical staff has done well and I've come back like I was never away."

Eriksen resumed his career with Brentford merely six months after suffering a cardiac arrest in Denmark's opening European Championship game against Finland in June 2021. The 31-year-old joined United nine months ago, having been approached by previous managers Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"I was dreaming about being where I am today but back then it was just a dream being back playing football, taking it step by step and to be the best version of a football player I can be," Eriksen added.

"And I was lucky at the time the manager wanted me to come here. I'm enjoying it, I did a year ago, even more now. Here now already with a trophy aim for two more and it will be fun."
