Christian Doidge urges Hibs strikers to rediscover scoring touch after Kevin Nisbet was ruled out for the season

Christian Doidge has urged Hibs' strikers to rediscover their shooting boots in Kevin Nisbet ’s absence.

Nisbet will miss the remainder of the Premiership season after a challenge from Celtic's Carl Starfelt resulted in a knee ligament injury.

Shaun Maloney's team have now failed to find the net in seven of their last nine league games following last night's 0-0 draw with bottom club Dundee.

The Hibees went down to ten-men after Rocky Bushiri was sent off, but stood firm to earn a point.

However, they need to start scoring again at the other end and Doidge admitted that he and his teammates have to up their game in that regard.

“I’m gutted for Kevin, he’s a massive player for us,” he said.

“He has been great since he came in so it is really disappointing for him but I am sure he is going to come back stronger.

“I’ll be getting a few more minutes now so hopefully I can lead the line for the lads.

“We have to keep creating chances and hope that us front lads score some goals.

“We are doing the right things at the moment, we are keeping it tight at the back so it is now just down to the front lads to create some more chances and put the ball in the back of the net."

The feeling in the Hibs camp is that they should have won on Tayside last night but Doidge hailed a strong defensive performance.

“We feel we should have won the game,” he told HIbs TV.

“Obviously we made it a bit harder with Rocky getting sent off. But we still got in good positions to go and win the game. Towards the end we had to defend well and fight and the lads did that.

“We really wanted to come here and win today. I felt in the first half we dominated the ball and got ourselves in good positions. In the second half we created a few half decent chances that on another day we would’ve scored.

“We showed again how good we are at defending. Going down to 10 men is always difficult especially away from home and the boys showed great fight to dig in.”
