Christian Doidge 'could be key' to Hibs' Dylan Levitt pursuit as Lee Johnson gives transfer update

Hibs may have to add Christian Doidge to their offer for Dylan Levitt if they want to bring the Dundee United youngster to the capital this summer.

The Hibees are understood to be keen in the Welsh internationalist and have been in talks but have failed to match United’s £500,000 asking price. The Daily Record reports that United boss Jim Goodwin is interested in Doidge after the Welshman spent last season on loan at Kilmarnock. United would would be keen to take him in to spearhead their push for an immediate Premiership return amid a shortage of options up front. Steven Fletcher terminated his deal early and Tony Watt is still coming back from injury.

Ironically, Doidge scored a weekend brace for Hibs in their weekend friendly win over Edinburgh and boss Lee Johnson has insisted the door is open for the big Welshman to force his way into his first-team plans.

Johnson may well have to sacrifice him and come up with additional cash to get a deal for Levitt over the line, with Edinburgh rivals Hearts and Wigan Athletic are also interested in the former Manchester United youngster.

Levitt is in the final year of his Tannadice contract but wants to play at the highest level he can. United boss Jim Goodwin has already signed Ross Docherty, Kevin Holt and Liam Grimshaw and hopes to strengthen his squad further this week.

MeanwhileJohnson is expecting more departures at Easter Road as interest from down south is being directed towards Harry McKirdy.

Aiden McGeady, Marijan Cabraja and Kevin Nisbet have already made their exits while the Hibees have added five new signings ahead of this month's Europa Conference League qualifiers.

Johnson however is insisting there's plenty more business to be done and revealed he has offers on the table for some of his players.

Football Scotland reported that misfiring McKirdy has interest from three English clubs and Hibs are willing to let him leave on loan for the season.

The Easter Road gaffer was tight-lipped when asked if McKirdy could move on but did admit there will be more movement over the coming weeks.

Asked if McKirdy - who missed the weekend's 4-2 friendly win over Edinburgh City with a hamstring injury - could depart, he said: "We'll have to wait and see. There are a lot of decisions to make. One thing we've never been short of is that positive nature in decision-making.

"We run a very tight ship financially, and we have to make sure that we absolutely maximise the squad. There is a natural evolution in a squad every window and there will be again in this window.

"We've got a couple of offers pending for our players, but all parties have got to agree and make sure it's best for us and the player."
