Christa Pike is conscious and speaking nearly a week after Tennessee's attempt to execute her by lethal injection failed, her lawyers said on Tuesday, 6 October. The 50-year-old remains in hospital receiving critical medical care after surviving two doses of pentobarbital on 30 September.
Her attorneys said she sustained severe injuries to her arms and remained handcuffed and shackled to her hospital bed. 'Her prognosis remains unclear but, at a minimum, we expect a long recovery,' they said in a statement.
