Longtime newsman Chris Wallace has written a book on the 1960 presidential election between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. The book, titled 'Countdown 1960: The Behind-the-Scenes Story of the 311 Days that Changed America’s Politics Forever,' is set to be published on Oct. 8 by Dutton.
Wallace highlighted the significance of the 1960 election, noting that it was the first to be largely conducted on television. It also featured the first televised debates between the major party candidates and was unique in that both candidates were born in the 20th century.
The 1960 campaign was marked by allegations of election theft, which Wallace sees as a precursor to the baseless claims made by Donald Trump regarding the 2020 election results.
Wallace collaborated on the book with Mitch Weiss, with whom he had previously worked on bestsellers 'Countdown 1945' and 'Countdown bin Laden.'
