Chris Sutton makes forgotten Newcastle top four point after Liverpool thrashed Manchester United

Chris Sutton has reminded Liverpool their push for Champions League football is far form complete despite their resounding 7-0 win over Manchester United. Newcastle's recent run of poor form has seen them tumble down the table from third to sixth, with just one win in their last eight games.

However, former Blackburn Rovers striker Sutton has warned Liverpool it's too early to write Newcastle off despite a dominant display from Jurgen Klopp's side against Manchester United. The Reds ran out 7-0 winners, with Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah grabbing braces with Bobby Firmino adding one more for good measure at the death.

Plenty has been said about Erik Ten Hag's side in recent weeks and their resurgence under the Dutch head coach. He picked up his first piece of silverware since making the move to Old Trafford in the summer, but cam crashing back down to earth with a heavy defeat at Anfield.

For Klopp, the win will only buoy his side in their pursuit of Champions League football. The win over the Magpies closed the gap to Eddie Howe's side - which was once ten points - but the win over the Red Devils moved Liverpool into fifth, a point above the Toon.

Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Newcastle have fallen away as well. We absolutely can’t rule them out of finishing in the top four.

“Just looking at the league table, they have a game in hand over Liverpool. If they win that game in hand, they will go above them.”

Newcastle can move two points clear of Liverpool with a win and onto 44 points, one point behind Spurs who they have two games in hand on. All is not lost for the Magpies who could reclaim their top-four berth with two wins and leapfrogging both Tottenham and the Reds.
