Chris Sutton agrees with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min claim amid bold Tottenham prediction

Chris Sutton and James Benge are in agreement that Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min will play a crucial role in keeping Tottenham's Champions League hopes alive. Spurs welcome the French outfit to north London for the final group stage clash as qualification from Group D hangs in the balance.

Antonio Conte's side will be looking to book a place in the knockout stages but, with only two points separating the four sides, Spurs have to get a result of some sort.

Tottenham head into the clash top the group on eight points. Only two goals separate Sporting CP and Eintracht Frankfurt, who are both on seven points, and they sit second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, Marseille are bottom of the group on six points. Tottenham beat the French giants 2-0 in north London last month thanks to two well-taken headers from Richarlison, who is now one of three major doubts for the clash.

But, despite the 25-year-old striker stepping up to the plate last time out, it has been predicted that Kane and Son will shoulder the goalscoring responsibilities. In a column for the Daily Mail, Sutton detailed the 'devastating' effect the Spurs duo could have.

"Marseille tend to have the majority of possession in their games and they know the onus is on them to go for it tonight," the former Chelsea striker said. "That could work to Tottenham’s advantage because they prefer playing on the counter-attack.

"Harry Kane and Son Heung-min can be devastating that way. Kane drops deep, receives the ball, turns and finds Son, who is already making his trademark forward run behind the opposition’s back line. We’ve seen that work time and again for Tottenham, like when they opened the scoring against Eintracht Frankfurt."

Benge agreed that any goals scored by Spurs this evening will likely come from Kane and Son combining. But, the journalist highlighted that Conte's side are creating fewer chances which could prove fatal.

"The big issue is obvious, if difficult to solve," wrote Benge in a column for CBS Sports. "They simply do not create enough chances from open play.

"Heung-min Son averages 0.24 expected goals assisted (xAG) in the Premier League this season, but well over a third of his shot-creating actions have come from set pieces. Meanwhile, Harry Kane's creative numbers have taken something of a drop back, perhaps in part because of Son's struggles for form.

"Their instinctive relationship was the crux of Tottenham's best form in recent years and the bigger picture problem that few in north London want to answer is when one of these two titanic figures eventually falls off, does the other suffer a drop off anyway? That is for the future -- a long way into it Spurs will hope.

"For now there is a Champions League group to escape and a trip to the Stade Velodrome that might just suit Tottenham," he added. "Marseille have been one of the competition's most watchable sides so far this season, for good and bad. Undoubtedly this will be a team that tests Spurs.

"The bigger picture is that Spurs should expect slightly more from their team than late fightbacks and set-piece dominance. But for now that should be enough."
