Chris Paul‘s role on the Golden State Warriors continues to be a talking point. Since the veteran guard was acquired in a trade with the Washington Wizards, the media and the fan base have debated whether Paul will spend the season coming off the bench or being part of a small-ball starting five.
Speaking on a recent episode of Yahoo Sport’s “Ball Don’t Lie” podcast, Andescape’s Marc Spears shared his belief Paul will be part of Golden State’s starting five. However, Spears noted Steve Kerr will likely keep Paul’s minutes with the starting unit low to manage his health and overall playing time.
Buy Warriors Tickets“I do expect him to start. And I think it’s like five-minute spurts,” Spears said. “I don’t know that they really want his minutes to be high, but I think they’re gonna try it. I could be wrong, but that’s the gist I’m getting. This isn’t an opinion that he’s expected to start; it’s what I’m hearing. He’s never not started in his career.”
Kerr has remained coy on the subject of Paul’s potential role with the Warriors. During an interview with ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, Kerr noted how no decisions will be made until training camp is underway.
“I think that’ll be a case where you get three weeks of training camp before that first game,” Kerr said “We’ll just look at all kinds of different combinations. … The main thing is we know all those guys are going to play a lot of minutes.”
Warriors fans hope Paul can make a significant impact this season and that he can finally win the championship that has eluded him.
