The Chicago Bears are looking to surround quarterback Justin Fields with weapons this offseason, be it in free agency or the NFL draft. And there’s one prospect that would be a matchup made in heaven for Fields.
Much like the Cincinnati Bengals’ plan to reunite Joe Burrow with college teammates Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Bears would certainly love to reunite Fields with Ohio State teammate Chris Olave. But it’s easier said than done considering Chicago is without a first-round pick, where Olave is expected to be taken, and they’re not expected to trade up into the first round.
But you never know. Still, Olave was asked about the prospect of potentially playing with his college quarterback once again at the NFL level. As you can imagine, Olave would welcome a reunion with Fields in Chicago.
“Oh yeah, definitely,” Olave said Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “Having him in college as my quarterback, I know what he can do on-and-off the field and I know how hard he works. I feel like we’re very similar in ways and I feel like we can complement each other if we do end up on the same team.”
Whether Olave experiences a drop in the draft like so many before him remains to be seen. But you have to assume his performance at the NFL Combine this week will factor into things. But it would be a dream to pair Fields with Olave.
“Justin is a great player, great dude and I can’t wait see his career take off,” Olave said.
While landing Olave seems like a pipe dream, never say never. After all, no one expected Fields to fall within range where the Bears were able to trade up to acquire him.
