This is worth monitoring. Chris Olave exited Tuesday’s New Orleans Saints training camp practice early so he could be evaluated in the sideline medical tent.
Olave fell awkwardly at practice but was able to leave the field under his own power. He was seen walking slowly but without a limp, and ESPN’s Katherine Terrell noted quarterback Derek Carr running over to check on Olave as he left the field. Head coach Dennis Allen was short on details after practice.
“I think he just landed on his hip,” Allen told reporters after practice. “But I really, ‘it’s hip’ and that’s really about all I’ve got right now.”
So we’ll know more once the training staff has had time to fully evaluate Olave’s condition and share word with Allen, unless it’s reported sooner. The team’s leading receiver in each of the last two seasons would obviously be a big loss. This doesn’t appear to be too serious, initially, but we’ll keep you posted. It does go to show how fragile the depth chart might be at wide receiver. Olave and Cedrick Wilson Jr. are the only wideouts on the roster with more than 100 career receptions in the NFL.
