Chris Olave continues to praise rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler

Last week, Chris Olave praised Spencer Rattler’s arm talent. He believes the New Orleans Saints’ fifth-round draft pick had the potential to be a really good player. The veteran played it safe by saying he hadn’t seen a lot of Rattler, and that was just a first impression.

Now Olave’s back with an assessment of the rookie’s demeanor off the field. He told NFL Network’s Jane Slater that, “even off the field, Rattler just carries himself with confidence.”

First impression says he’s talented. After further evaluation, Olave is impressed with the demeanor when the game isn’t being played. It’s safe to say Olave likes the rookie quarterback.

Being able to make a strong first impression on his teammates will go a long way. Rattler is battling for second on the depth chart with Jake Haener, but the long view is for him to compete to take over from Derek Carr eventually. He isn’t there yet, but having his best receiver’s support could mean a lot in a year or two (or three).

It’s been said before that quarterbacks don’t always feel like one of the guys to other players in a locker room. They can feel distant or separate from other players. Rattler shouldn’t have that problem because of where he’s starting his career on the depth chart. Being able to be the leader of the team while still being one of the guys is the mark of a good leader.

Arm talent, attitude, and the potential for connectivity. According to his teammates, Rattler has some of the key ingredients to be a starter and a good leader.
