Chris Kamara says Sky Sports rumours are 'news to me' after claims he was leaving

Chris Kamara has spoken up about claims he is set to leave Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday along with Jeff Stelling at the end of this season.

Middlesbrough-born former player and pundit Chris has long been a fan favourite on Soccer Saturday, due to his energetic and unique analysis, coupled with his sense of humour.

The Daily Mail reported that Kammy, who started working at Sky in 1999 after retiring from his playing career, will part ways with Sky in May, when Hartlepool-born host Jeff Stelling is confirmed to leave.

But the Mail's claim is "news to me", said Kammy, on his Twitter page, as he threw doubt on the Mail's story.

Kammy, 64, wrote: "Today’s story is news to me, even though some of you have noticed that I’ve had a few weeks off Sky Sports I’m back on the 12th March. Looking forward to seeing Jeff and the Soccer Saturday gang again."

The Mail claimed Kamara had "seen the writing on the wall' after Stelling announced his departure in October, which followed Sky axing pundits including Matt Le Tissier, Charlie Nicholas, and Phil Thompson in 2020.

Jeff Stelling will step down from his Soccer Saturday hotseat in May after 28 years at Sky.

"I have loved every moment of my 30 years with Sky, but like every Saturday afternoon the time eventually comes to blow the final whistle,” he said in October.

"I am proud to have been part of such a winning team for so long and look forward to the many more special moments on Soccer Saturday for rest of this season - and perhaps even another promotion push from Hartlepool United."
