Derrick Henry is the third-leading rusher in Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans history, behind only Eddie George and Earl Campbell.
Chris Johnson, who ranks right behind Henry on that list, spoke out about The King leaving Nashville for Baltimore.
Appearing on The Music City Audible podcast, Johnson compared Henry’s departure this summer to his own exit in 2014.
“Derrick Henry’s departure reminded me of my own,” Johnson said while appearing on the pod.
“We changed coaches and we’re not going to be run-heavy anymore. Derrick Henry doesn’t really help you in the passing game.”
Johnson went on to say that Henry was not an every-down back but a player who would get subbed off on third down or obvious passing downs.
Johnson, who said in 2020 that he made a massive mistake in joining the Jets over the Ravens, believes that the Titans’ coaching change this year will lead to a change in offensive philosophy.
“Derrick Henry’s departure reminded me of my own. We changed coaches and we’re not going to be run-heavy anymore. Derrick Henry doesn’t really help you in the passing game.”

Mike Vrabel saw his six-year stay in the Music City end after back-to-back losing seasons. Brian Callahan is now the man at the helm in Nissan Stadium.
While Johnson’s remarks about Henry’s abilities (or supposed lack thereof) in the passing game were rather blunt, most Ravens fans already knew that.
It was already clear that Henry was not signed to be primarily a pass-catching back in Todd Monken’s system.
